The Process

To commission me to make your home, shop or business in clay I need clear photos of all four sides of the building you would like to commission. If the house is attached then I will need front and back views. For semi detached house houses I need three sides clearly photographed.

These photos need to be emailed to houses@amandabanham.com with your name and phone number. I will then send you a quote by email. If you would like to proceed with the house quote I will ask you for a deposit and once this has been paid I will make the house. I will send you an expected time frame of when you can expect the house.

You will receive photos of each stage of the house to “okay” it’s progress and check I haven’t missed any vital windows or doors.

Once the house is fired and finished I will send you photos and an invoice for the finished house minus the deposit. Once this is paid plus postage we will send the house to you.

The Costs

Houses often appear very straight forward from the front or “street view". However the backs of houses are often much more complicated. This is why I need images from all sides to quote. I work out the cost based on how difficult the house looks to me to make, how many hours it will take.

Houses on different levels and with steps will be more expensive. I cannot make houses with conservatories as clay just doesn’t lend it self to them at all and they end up looking like spaceships.

Commissions start from £200 for a very simple shaped house such as a bothy in Scotland. Most average sized 3 bedroom Uk houses are about £350. But it is hard to say until I have received the photos.

For multiples of the same house it depends on the complexity of the house but I try and make it affordable.

All of the houses and shops on this page are real life places which I have been commissioned to make. Most of them have been raku fired although some are too fragile to go through this process and these are fired in an electric kiln.

I hope you enjoy the gallery of real homes. More will be added as they are made.

Any questions please email - houses@amandabanham.com

I look forward to seeing your houses.

Images 1,2,3 and 4 here are the sides of one of the most complicated houses I have made. We did raku fire it but my heart was in my mouth and I may have cried when it was successful.

Images 4,5,6 and 7 are all sides of another house I held my breath with whilst in the kiln.

“Andys” is a grocery store in Canada. It isn’t called Andys in real life on the outside although that is how it is referred to locally after the man who owns it. I was commissioned to make 4 Andys for several generations of the family who have all worked there.
